The transfer of the collection from the Botanical Garden to the Institute of Pharmacology took place in several stages and was formalised by the Rector on 21 June 1924 and 12 June 1926. The Library of the Botanical Garden has five handwritten lists of the transferred books, signed by Luigi Sabbatani, dated 18 November 1922, 26 February 1923, 30 March, 20 and 21 July 1926. There are around 740 works listed in at least 980 physical volumes. The last two transfers consisted mainly of nineteenth-century pamphlets.

The Library of the Department of Pharmaceutical and Pharmacological Sciences reconstructed the main catalogue based on the handwritten lists of the books transferred from the Botanical Garden.

There are 1,012 documents. Some books on the transfer list are missing or have not been identified.
Technically, an ownership note for each book has been included in the catalogue with the date of donation, and information about its origin and the relationship to the owner: Università degli Studi Orto Botanico.
Every book can also be found in Prefect Marsili’s handwritten catalogue, which makes up the first nucleus of the Library of the Botanical Garden (328 documents), which was always been annotated together with a reference to the owner: Marsili, Giovanni.

To pay tribute to Luigi Sabbatani, Director of the Pharmacological Institute at the time of the transfer, the copies are marked with a field which makes it possible to extract Sabbatani’s sub-catalogue, which also contains the works for which he is the author or with his ownership note:
