Stirpium specimina calcata

print this page

Volume produced by the Botanical Garden of Padua in the second half of the eighteenth century by a student, Giovanni Crasso, through the smoke printing technique.

It is therefore not an illustrated herbal in which the images are developed through the observation of the actual plants (such as in the volumes presented earlier in this section), but a work in which the plants themselves have undertaken the function of printing matrix.

The different species are indicated with the nomenclature which follows the Tournefort method. The names of the plants sometimes have misspellings and in some cases the correspondence between the name of the plant and the plate is not correct.
